Full Mouth Implants

Missing all your teeth on the top and/or bottom of your mouth interferes with your entire life. There is a solution to replace multiple missing teeth, and it doesn’t involve palate-covering dentures. At Implant and Facial Surgery Center in South Florida, our oral and maxillofacial surgeons Dr. Matouk and Dr. Guevara offer full mouth implants to qualified candidates, creating permanent restorations that look natural and are fully functional.

About Us

Preparing for Full Mouth Implants

When you are missing teeth, you can’t bite and chew easily, speak clearly, or feel good about your appearance. Over time, the absence of teeth negatively affects the shape of your face and jaw. When you are ready to replace what’s missing, this is what you can expect:

  • Consultation. Consult with your chosen oral surgeon to find out if you’re a good candidate for full mouth implants. Jawbone condition, gum health, existing restorations, and overall well-being are taken into consideration along with an exam, x-rays, and other scans.
  • Scheduling. Implants are a lengthy process. The procedure requires patience. Your oral surgeon will determine how many implants are needed, where they can be placed, and if bone grafts, gum disease treatment, or other prep work is needed to make the mouth healthy and strong for the dental implants to be placed.

The Full Mouth Dental Implant Procedure

When it’s time for your full mouth dental implant procedure, be ready for a meticulous process. Every step adds to a strong foundation for these restorations and rebuilds your smile to look great and function flawlessly.

  • Surgery. Full mouth implants are placed surgically into the jawbone, with four to eight implants in the upper jawbone and four to six implants in the lower jaw.
  • Temporaries. A temporary bridge is attached to the small piece at the top of the implant (the abutment) so you can smile confidently and eat comfortably while healing.
  • Healing. It will take several months to complete healing and for the implant to fuse to the jawbone. Your oral surgeon will monitor you through this process and see you at intervals to check on your progress.
  • Resolution. The final step of the dental implant process is to attach a permanent restoration, which could be a permanent denture or dental bridge.

Who Is a Good Candidate for Dental Implants?

There are multiple ways to replace missing teeth, but dental implants are the most desirable for their permanent, tough, natural-looking ways. If you’re wondering if you’re a good candidate, consider the following:

  • You don’t want dentures anymore. Denture adhesives are not always reliable. This appliance can take away feeling and taste from part of your mouth. You may be eligible for an upgrade to full mouth implants.
  • Your bone density is solid. A strong and healthy jawbone minimizes the chances that you’ll need to undergo a bone graft to qualify for dental implants, saving you time, stress, and investment.
  • Your oral health is in good shape. One could argue that missing teeth means your mouth is not healthy, but some people find themselves without all their teeth because of an injury or accident and that means you may be able to get dental implants soon.
